Ikaika Kalama, owner of Hale’iwa Canoe Tours, was born and raised in Puna on the Eastern coastline of Hawaii Island, and is a longtime North Shore resident. Ikaika has honed his skills worldwide with over 30 years of paddling experiences. He is recognized as one of Hawaii’s premier watermen, thus raised to dedicate his lifestyle as a mastered fisherman to the ocean by also keeping travelling surfers and local watermen safe as a member of the North Shore Hawaiian Water Patrol. Accurate pioneer of SUP surfing Pipeline, professional big wave surfer. His father, Unko Boogie Kalama, is one of the original crew members of Hawaii’s famous double haul voyaging masterpiece, the Hokule’a, and sailed upon her historic maiden voyage from Hawaii to Tahiti in 1976, compassed by Pacific voyaging techniques, wind and stars, which influenced his composition of the song Hokule’a, meaning stars of gladness.
